Role Summary
The Senior Content Designer creates user-centered, accessible digital content, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, mentoring colleagues, managing stakeholders, and championing best practices in the public sector.
Responsibilities
- Plan, write, and manage usable and accessible content aligned with GDS/GOV.UK Content Design guidelines
- Produce accurate, timely, relevant, easy-to-understand, search engine optimized content that meets style guidelines
- Manage stakeholders and build successful relationships, explaining content decisions
- Apply analytical and problem-solving skills to solve design problems and challenge assumptions
- Champion user-centred design practices for digital products and services
- Advocate for accessible digital products and services
- Participate in the Content Design Community of Practice, sharing ideas and best practices
- Take responsibility for content quality, coaching and mentoring content designers
- Support team members’ learning and career progression
- Line manage members of the content design team (project support, guidance, 1:1s, appraisals, approving timecards and leave)
- Support the Head of Content (training, project planning, recruitment, sales and marketing activities)
- Help create a welcoming, inclusive team environment and encourage work-life balance
Qualifications
- Experience producing user-centred content that meets GDS/GOV.UK standards
- Strong understanding of end-to-end user journeys and content improvements
- Experience as a content designer in an agile environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate digital product concepts and standards to stakeholders
- Stakeholder relationship management skills; negotiation and influence
- Strategic thinking and evaluating impact to ensure user and business needs are met
- Experience working with user researchers to gain insights for content decisions
- Commitment to accessibility in content design
- Experience with people management, coaching, and assuring junior colleague quality
- Ensuring quality and continuous improvement of content
- Proactive approach to environmental issues and responsibility
- Commitment to diversity, equality and inclusion
- Experience creating and updating prototypes (e.g. GOV.UK Prototype Kit)
