Role Summary
The Senior Designer is a leadership role in commercial kitchen design for the construction and foodservice industry, responsible for creating draft layouts, production drawings, presentation materials, client engagement, and driving successful project outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Interact with customers to identify equipment needs and promote design services
- Perform site visits to survey conditions, gather project information, or identify equipment needs
- Determine project size, scope, and budget; offer equipment recommendations
- Work independently to create commercial foodservice equipment designs
- Utilize AutoCad and/or Revit to coordinate with design team members
- Understand plumbing and electrical systems; identify and locate utility services
- Produce construction document sets; collaborate with architects and engineers
- Produce equipment elevations and incorporate construction details
- Communicate and manage lead times; ensure timely project needs
- Identify and produce complete scope of work for projects
- Communicate with manufacturers to develop shop drawings for custom equipment
- Prepare itemized equipment budgets
- Review and approve submittal packages for adherence to design intent
- Advance latest design technology and industry innovations
- Respond to requests for information (RFIs)
- Conduct site visits and generate punch lists during installation
- Foster positive relations with customers, vendors, and internal personnel
- Grow design revenue annually
- Participate in department meetings and vendor training sessions
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Engineering, or related discipline
- 10+ years’ experience designing in the foodservice industry
- Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit
- Must complete CFSP Test within first 3 years of employment
- Experienced in various market segments of design
- Extensive knowledge of BIM practices, standards, and techniques
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Office products & AutoQuotes
- Basic working knowledge of general construction, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing
- Ability to read architectural drawings
- Strong communication, presentation, and selling skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
