Service Designer

Role Summary

The Service Designer works in multidisciplinary, agile teams across GDS projects for public sector customers. Responsible for understanding user needs and designing products and services that deliver excellent results.

Responsibilities

• Work with users and stakeholders to design end-to-end journeys and individual service elements
• Apply design thinking and evidence-based approaches to solve user problems
• Conduct and collaborate on user research to test designs for usability and accessibility
• Create and iterate prototypes with appropriate fidelity and tools
• Evaluate concepts, prototypes, and communicate design decisions to stakeholders
• Apply design patterns and participate in design community activities
• Ensure designs comply with accessibility and sector standards, including GDS
• Communicate design process and decisions effectively with colleagues and customers
• Manage stakeholders and escalate issues as required
• Align work to agile workflows in a multidisciplinary team

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of design thinking and ability to apply frameworks
• Evidence-based approach to design with testing of assumptions
• Ability to conduct user research and collaborate with researchers
• Experience designing for a wide range of user needs
• Skill in creating and iterating prototypes
• Knowledge of accessible and inclusive design principles
• Understanding and compliance with common design standards and GDS
• Effective communication and stakeholder management skills
• Experience working in agile, multidisciplinary teams
• Eligible for Security Clearance (5 years continuous UK address history)
