What is a hero section?

A hero section is the top area of a web page, visible before any scrolling. It usually holds four things: a headline that says what the product or site is, a sentence of support, one call to action and an image, video or product shot. Visitors decide within seconds whether to stay, and the hero is what they decide on.

What should a hero section contain?

A headline a stranger can understand without context. A subheading that adds who it is for or how it works. A single primary button whose label names the next step, such as "Start free trial". And a visual that shows the product or its result. Logos of known customers directly under the hero add proof without adding reading.

How tall should a hero section be?

Short enough that the start of the next section shows at the bottom of a common laptop screen. A hero that fills the whole viewport can look like the whole page, so some visitors never scroll. Check it at 1366 by 768 and on a phone, where the headline and the button must both fit above the fold.

Where do these hero examples come from?

Almost all are hero sections published on Layers, with a few hero components from the Framer marketplace and UI8. Muzli follows more than 200 design sources and lists up to 60 matching pieces here, favouring recent work.
